Pinched Nerve

Are you noticing shooting pain traveling down your arms and legs? If so, you may be suffering from something called a pinched nerve. Unfortunately, a pinched nerve is a common concern that many people face at some point during their life. Even though a lot of people believe they might need surgical procedures to release this nerve, this is not always the case. We may be able to help.

What Are Some Causes?

A pinched nerve takes place when the nerve itself has been compressed by surrounding tissues. In some situations, cartilage, bone, or swollen soft tissue can impact the nerve itself. Some of the most common reasons why people develop pinched nerves include:

  • Issues related to weight and obesity
  • The development of rheumatoid arthritis
  • Suffering a traumatic injury playing sports
  • Stress from poor work ergonomics
  • Certain hobbies, particularly athletics, that can lead to a pinched nerve through an overuse injury
  • Trauma from an auto accident

In most situations, a pinched nerve is caused by spinal alignment issues related to the tissues of the body. This could include the body’s bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, or muscle tissue. These tissues should not compress the body’s nerves. If this is the case, these issues need to be realigned.

  • How will Chiropractic help?

One of the keys to treating a pinched nerve is going to be a chiropractic adjustment. A chiropractic adjustment is one of the most effective remedies for pinched nerves because it addresses the pain at its source.

The root cause of the compression or pinch is usually bones, joints or muscles that either are out of their proper position or have become misaligned in some way.

The chiropractic adjustment restores the proper position and alignment and by doing so, it relieves the pressure on the nerve. This method of treatment addresses the problem at its cause and it can provide immediate and substantial relief to the patient.

While the chiropractic adjustment is probably the most significant part of the treatment process, a chiropractor is likely to employ a multi-faceted approach to fully restore the patient’s health and to help prevent the possibility of a re-occurrence.

Along with chiropractic adjustments, a chiropractor may use some methods within the field of physical therapy, they might also prescribe some level of exercise for the patient and they may offer some advice in regard to lifestyle that can help to prevent the nerve from becoming pinched again in the future.

  • Signs and Symptoms
